At a district heating plant in the Czech Republic, it was necessary to provide a safe and reliable disconnection of the electric boiler technology directly at the generator output. The solution had to operate in an outdoor environment, withstand high currents and short-circuit stresses, and at the same time allow manual operator intervention in emergency conditions.

Disconnection of an Electric Boiler Using an Outdoor Generator Switchgear GSO-LB

Our Solution

IVEP supplied an outdoor air-insulated generator switchgear of type GSO-LB, designed as a tee-off cabinet with a load-break switch at the generator output. The switchgear is used for the safe disconnection of the electric boiler technology from the power source and forms part of the primary power distribution system.

Air-insulated GSO-type switchgear is intended for power output from a generator or transformer and features high short-circuit withstand capability, robust construction, and design flexibility. A fully customized technical solution according to the specific application is, of course, provided.

Safety and Operation

The switchgear was designed with a strong focus on operator and operational safety:

  • In emergency situations (e.g. loss of auxiliary power supply), manual operation of the switching device is possible.
  • During manual operation, a mechanical interlock is provided to prevent closing of the earthing switch unless the disconnector is in the open position.
  • Access to the manual operating mechanisms is secured with padlocks, increasing safety and preventing unauthorized operation.

  • Safe and reliable disconnection of the electric boiler technology from the generator.
  • A solution fully functional even under emergency operating conditions.
  • Robust outdoor design suitable for long-term operation in a power plant environment.
  • The equipment was delivered on March 29, 2018 and successfully integrated into the district heating plant operation.
